ExxonMobil Indonesia's Cepu faces setbacks, CEO to be replaced

JAKARTA (Reuters) - ExxonMobil Indonesia's Cepu block will likely not reach full production until August or September 2014, behind the initial schedule for May 2014, an official from the oil and gas regulator told Reuters on Monday.

"Initially we were expecting the project would deliver (full) production in May 2014, but I'm not sure if we can deliver it in May or not ... Probably going up to August or September," said Gde Pradnyana, operations controller at the regulator.

Cepu is producing 24,000 barrels per day and its target production of 165,000 is hoped will boost Indonesia's dwindling crude output.

Pradnyana said Cepu was a top priority for the government, and that its management and delays in production were one of the reasons why the regulator had decided not to extend its assignment for ExxonMobils local CEO, Richard Owen.

Get cirrus in the fight against climate change

FEATHERY cirrus clouds are beautiful, but when it comes to climate change, they are the enemy. Found at high-altitude and made of small ice crystals, they trap heat - so more cirrus means a warmer world. Now it seems that, by destroying cirrus, we could reverse all the warming Earth has experienced so far.

In 2009, David Mitchell of the Desert Research Institute in Reno, Nevada, proposed a radical way to stop climate change: get rid of some cirrus. Now Trude Storelvmo of Yale University and colleagues have used a climate model to test the idea.

Storelvmo added powdered bismuth triiodide into the model's troposphere, the layer of the atmosphere in which these clouds form. Ice crystals grew around these particles and expanded, eventually falling out of the sky, reducing cirrus coverage. Without the particles, the ice crystals remained small and stayed up high for longer.

The technique, done on a global scale, created a powerful cooling effect, enough to counteract the 0.8 ?C of warming caused by all the greenhouse gases released by humans (Geophysical Research Letters, DOI: 10.1002/grl.50122).

But too much bismuth triiodide made the ice crystals shrink, so cirrus clouds lasted longer. "If you get the concentrations wrong, you could get the opposite of what you want," says Storelvmo. And, like other schemes for geoengineering, side effects are likely - changes in the jet stream, say.

Different model assumptions give different "safe" amounts of bismuth triiodide, says Tim Lenton of the University of Exeter, UK. "Do we really know the system well enough to be confident of being in the safe zone?" he asks. "You wouldn't want to touch this until you knew."

Mitchell says seeding would take 140 tonnes of bismuth triiodide every year, which by itself would cost $19 million.

Web founder Berners-Lee: Governments are suppressing online ...

By Agence France-Presse
Friday, January 25, 2013 14:44 EST

?

The inventor of the World Wide Web warned Friday that government control is limiting the possibilities of the Internet, as dozens of countries and businesses signed a cybersecurity deal at the Davos forum.

The comments by Tim Berners-Lee at the World Economic Forum plugged into a wider debate among the delegates on the future of the Internet, particularly how to balance openness with privacy and security.

While Yahoo!?s chief Marissa Mayer told the forum there was a ?trade off? between privacy and the benefits of increasingly personalised services offered by Internet giants, the network?s founding father took up the ethical issues at stake.

?The dream is of a more open web,? Berners-Lee told the gathering in the Swiss ski resort, citing social media as a way of breaking down barriers.

But he said the recent suicide of Aaron Swartz, a 26-year-old US Internet activist who faced charges of illegally copying and distributing millions of academic articles, highlighted government efforts to police the Internet.

?He downloaded a lot and so the secret service in the US decided that he was a hacker. For them that isn?t the term of great praise that it is when I use it. For me a hacker is someone who is creative and does wonderful things,? he said.

Berners-Lee ? who launched the first web page on Christmas Day 1990 and is is credited with creating the World Wide Web ? called on international governments to release more data, saying that others could use it to find solutions to problems including economic and health issues.

?They can give you 101 reasons for not doing it but it comes down to control,? the Briton told the forum.

But Yahoo! CEO Mayer had a different take when it came to data about individual users held by companies such as hers and by other Internet giants such as Facebook and Google.

?I think that privacy will always be something that users should consider. But I also think that privacy is a trade off,? she said.

?Because where you give that personal information you get functionality in return.?

Mayer, 37, who took over in July at Yahoo! after 13 years at Google in a move aimed at reinvigorating the faded Internet firm, said the future lay in the increased ?personalisation? of the web.

She predicted the dominance in coming years of handheld Internet devices to take personalised content.

?It?s really important if you look at what?s happening in terms of the shift to mobile,? she said, saying that the number of tablets and smartphones had tripled in five years and that tablets would outsell laptops this year.

But she added: ?The real question is making money from it.?

For government leaders at Davos the topic was about how to harness the power of the Internet to boost the global economy ? while also maintaining security against fraud and terrorism.

More than 70 companies and government bodies officially signed up to the World Economic Forum?s new ?Cyber Resilience? principles on Friday aimed at tackling the issue.

Speaking at Davos on Friday, British cybersecurity minister Francis Maude said a ?safe and secure? Internet was necessary to help business thrive.

?Cyber security is a shared, global challenge ? our companies operate in a global marketplace. The cyber threat knows no geographical boundaries and it matters that those we connect to are secure as well,? Maude said.

Separately Neelie Kroes, the European Union?s telecommunications commissioner, was at Davos to appeal to companies and governments to improve the technological skills of young Europeans to compete with the rest of the world.

?The digital skills gap is growing, like our unemployment queues,? she said, adding that the information technology sector was out of recession and growing seven times faster than other sectors.

Berners-Lee agreed, saying that the world economy needed ?more people who can program? and that in the Internet age children should be taught how to use computers from an early age.

But he added: ?Computers are important, but young people should study history and art and music and things.?

From the Blender: Vegan Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie | Serious ...

2013-01-16-237156-vegan-strawberry-lemonade-smoothie.jpg

Some people?normal people?crave sweets. It's evolutionary. You'd seek out high-sugar foods in the wild, or you'd die of starvation. Me? I wouldn't have lasted a month. I crave umami. Salt. Tang. There's definitely something wrong with me.

Thankfully my CSA boxes and takeout Indian food get delivered, so I'm not overly worried about starving to death. (Also, thankfully I'm in my mid-30s now, so I'm not overly worried about whether there's something wrong with me, either. That's evolutionary, too.)

You hear a lot these days about how sweets are too easy to come by in the Standard American Diet. That's a can of worms for another day. But what you don't hear about so much, and maybe you should start to listen for, is the lack of tangy smoothies out there for those of us with some evolutionary challenges. A Google search for "tangy smoothies" doesn't even break a million results. By comparison, a search for "things that are extremely rare" produces 6.3 million results. I mean, come on.

If you want a tangy smoothie?pleasantly sweet, sure, but also nice and brisk?sometimes it pays to just go ahead and invent one. So I did. This Vegan Strawberry Lemonade Smoothie uses both fresh lemon juice and a dollop of soy yogurt for tang. The yogurt also contributes a slight creaminess, which even strange and broken products of botched evolution like myself (yay!) expect from a smoothie. If you ask me, it's perfect. And if you like lemonade, tart frozen yogurt, or both, I think you'll agree. Even if you're one of the normal ones.

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) ? The death toll from the terrorist siege at a natural gas plant in the Sahara climbed past 80 on Sunday as Algerian forces searching the refinery for explosives found dozens more bodies, many so badly disfigured it was unclear whether they were hostages or militants, a security official said.

Algerian special forces stormed the plant on Saturday to end the four-day siege, moving in to thwart what government officials said was a plot by the Islamic extremists to blow up the complex and kill all their captives with mines sown throughout the site.

In a statement, the Masked Brigade, the group that claimed to have masterminded the takeover, warned of more such attacks against any country backing France's military intervention in neighboring Mali, where the French are trying to stop an advance by Islamic extremists.

"We stress to our Muslim brothers the necessity to stay away from all the Western companies and complexes for their own safety, and especially the French ones," the statement said.

Algeria said after Saturday's assault by government forces that at least 32 extremists and 23 hostages were killed. On Sunday, Algerian bomb squads sent in to blow up or defuse the explosives found 25 more bodies, said the security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation.

"These bodies are difficult to identify. They could be the bodies of foreign hostages or Algerians or terrorists," the official said.

In addition, a wounded Romanian who had been evacuated died, raising the overall death toll to at least 81.

"Now, of course, people will ask questions about the Algerian response to these events, but I would just say that the responsibility for these deaths lies squarely with the terrorists who launched a vicious and cowardly attack," British Prime Minister David Cameron said. Three Britons were killed and another three were feared dead.

On Monday, Philippine Foreign Affairs officials said six Filipinos were among the hostages killed. Spokesman Raul Hernandez told reporters that 16 Filipinos have been accounted for and four others are still missing.

The dead hostages were also known to include at least one American and French workers. Nearly two dozen foreigners by some estimates were unaccounted for.

It was unclear whether anyone was rescued in the final assault on the complex, which is run by the Algerian state oil company along with BP and Norway's Statoil.

Two private Algerian TV stations and an online news site said security forces scouring the plant found five militants hiding out and learned that three others had fled. That information could not be immediately confirmed by security officials.

Authorities said the bloody takeover was carried out Wednesday by 32 men from six countries, under the command from afar of the one-eyed Algerian bandit Moktar Belmoktar, founder of the Masked Brigade, based in Mali. The attacking force called itself "Those Who Sign in Blood."

The Masked Brigade said Sunday the attack was payback against Algeria for allowing over-flights of French aircraft headed to Mali and for closing its long border with Mali. In an earlier communication, the Brigade claimed to have carried out the attack in the name of al-Qaida.

Armed with heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, missiles and grenades, the militants singled out foreign workers at the plant, killing some of them on the spot and attaching explosive belts to others.

Algeria's tough and uncompromising response to the crisis was typical of its take-no-prisoners approach in confronting terrorists, favoring military action over negotiation. Algerian military forces, backed by attack helicopters, launched two assaults on the plant, the first one on Thursday.

The militants had "decided to succeed in the operation as planned, to blow up the gas complex and kill all the hostages," Algerian Communications Minister Mohamed Said told state radio.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said the terrorists had tried to blow up the plant on Saturday but managed only to start a small fire. "That's when they started to execute hostages, and the special forces intervened," Eide said. Norway's Statoil said five Norwegians were still missing.

An audio recording of Algerian security forces speaking with the head of the kidnappers, Abdel Rahman al-Nigiri, on the second day of the drama indicated the hostage-takers were trying to organize a prisoner swap.

"You see our demands are so easy, so easy if you want to negotiate with us," al-Nigiri said in the recording broadcast by Algerian television. "We want the prisoners you have, the comrades who were arrested and imprisoned 15 years ago. We want 100 of them."

In another phone call, al-Nigiri said that half the militants had been killed by the Algerian army on Thursday and that he was ready to blow up the remaining hostages if security forces attacked again. An organization that monitors videos from radicals posted one showing al-Nigiri with what appeared to be an explosive belt around his waist.

The Algerians' use of forced raised an international outcry from some countries worried about their citizens.

But French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said Sunday on French television: "The terrorists ... they're the ones to blame."

David Plouffe, a senior adviser to President Barack Obama, said that al-Qaida and al-Qaida-affiliated groups remain a threat in North Africa and other parts of the world, and that the U.S. is determined to help other countries destroy those networks.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Plouffe said the tragedy in Algeria shows once again "that all across the globe countries are threatened by terrorists who will use civilians to try and advance their twisted and sick agenda."

Men at 'High' Skeletal Risk Prior to Prostate Cancer Hormone ...

Comprehensive Population-Based Study Conducted by Team at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey

Newswise ? New Brunswick, N.J., January 17, 2013 ? In what is believed to be the first study to describe the impact on men with a ?high? risk of bone fracture who are receiving long-term androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer, new research from The Cancer Institute of New Jersey shows this population to have a higher fracture incidence following treatment completion. The findings, published in the latest online version of BJU International (doi:10.1111/j.1464-410X.2012.11758.x), also show that men who experienced a fracture had a 1.38-fold higher mortality risk than those who did not. The Cancer Institute of New Jersey is a Center of Excellence of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS).

Men with localized prostate cancer who have underlying health conditions often receive this type of therapy with the hope to shrink or delay growth of their cancer, because they are considered inappropriate candidates for more aggressive therapies such as surgery or radiation. Previous studies have shown an association between the receipt of ADT for prostate cancer and an increased risk of bone fracture and other skeletal complications, such as a decrease in bone mineral density. The investigators at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey further explored the impact of this treatment on men already deemed to be at high risk for fracture prior to receiving therapy.

Using the population-based Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER)-Medicare linked database, researchers reviewed information on demographics and tumor characteristics from 75,994 men aged 66 and older who were diagnosed as having localized prostate cancer from 1992 to 2007. All of the SEER registries hold the highest level of certification of data quality. A risk assessment scale for baseline skeletal complications - including fracture - was created, utilizing the presence of certain conditions within one year prior to cancer diagnosis. These conditions included diabetes, alcohol and cigarette use, paralysis, and liver disease.

Investigators found that during a 12-year follow up, more than 58 percent of men deemed at high fracture risk prior to treatment and 38 percent considered at low risk developed at least one fracture following ADT. The research also showed that men with a high baseline risk had a higher probability of receiving ADT (52.1 percent) compared to those with a low baseline risk (38.2 percent). It was also determined that those men receiving ADT by itself were likely to have a stronger dose than those who received ADT in combination with other treatments for their prostate cancer. Mortality risk was found to be 40 percent higher within two years after experiencing a fracture.

?Our findings suggest that treating men having a high baseline risk of fracture with long-term androgen deprivation therapy may have serious adverse consequences,? said senior author Grace Lu-Yao, PhD, MPH, cancer epidemiologist at The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and professor of medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and of epidemiology at UMDNJ-School of Public Health. ?We anticipate the results of this study will prompt further examination of a patient?s baseline-risk of fracture and skeletal complications prior to administering this course of therapy.?

The authors note the use of bisphosphonates, which are effective in preventing bone loss in patients with prostate cancer receiving ADT, was not available in the SEER-Medicare linked data. Information regarding a patient?s height and weight, which can be considered risk factors for skeletal complications, also was not available. Data on men younger than 66 were not examined. Despite these limitations, Dr. Lu-Yao, says their investigation shines new light on a large subset of men who commonly receive ADT.

Along with Lu-Yao, the author team consists of Yu-Hsuan Shao, PhD, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and UMDNJ-School of Public Health; Dirk F. Moore, PhD, Weichung Shih, PhD, Yong Lin, PhD, and Thomas L. Jang, MD, MPH, all The Cancer Institute of New Jersey and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The study was supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute (R01 CA 116399) and (Cancer Center Support Grant - P30 CA072720-13); and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (60624).

Mayor Bloomberg Has a Hissy Fit

Apparently it was Mayor Bloomberg who scuttled talks between the city and the unions. The unions wanted a sunset clause, the mayor demanded no sunset clause.

According to Ernest Logan of the supervisors? union, most districts have a sunset clause:

??The CSA and the DOE were closing in on a final agreement on January 16, just before midnight. However, moments later, the Mayor intervened, demanding an agreement for an indefinite period of time,? Logan said.

?It is important to know that the overwhelming majority of school systems throughout the state have reached a one-year agreement in order to evaluate and modify it later to better serve our children. The state law provides for a one-year evaluation plan and the mayor supported the enactment of this legislation,? he added in a statement.?

Good news for those who want the stock rom. For everyone else waiting eagerly, why dont you consider a custom ROM? There are so many available, right from CM10.1 to AOKP to leaked and customised roms. I depend on XDA for all my ROMs and have been enjoying Jellybean for a few months now.

@joey41 both boost and virgin mobile run off of Sprint's towers, so when they update their s2's, it's a safe bet that boost and virgin will too. @lubba hey buddy, there have been plenty of updates in tablets and phones to make a dedicated reader like me not want to read at all with the abundance of technology in the CES expo alone. Even then, plenty of updates in technology pricing, software updates, as well release dates. You know what the real problem? You have s**t else better to do with your time or your head is lodged far up your ass for you to notice the various articles posted on the daily. Read you jackass, that would help you out alot. Also, even if the site was that bad, who's the genius who keeps coming back for more? Talk about a battered housewife syndrome.lol

Commend Minnesota Energy Company for New Solar Facility

By Peter Warila

Target:?Governor of Minnesota, Mark Dayton

Goal:?Commend the Minnesota energy company Ecos Energy for beginning commercial operations of the state?s largest solar project.

The largest solar array in the state of Minnesota, built by Ecos Energy and consisting of 7,040 panels, was recently placed into commercial operation. The new plant located, near the city of Slayton, is transmitting the clean electricity it generates to Xcel Energy for distribution to customers. Commend this organization for the completion and operation of the new Slayton solar generation site.

The recently completed project is comprised of 32 rows of solar panels spanning an area equivalent to 7 1/2 football fields. This technology generates a total of 2,000KW of output, enough to power 250 average Minnesota homes. Chris Little, director of development for Ecos Energy, said ?There was no celebration, but it is nice to get things up and running.? Installed solar capacity in Minnesota doubled in 2012 compared to 2011. The completion of the Slayton site this January continues this wave of growth even further into 2013.

All over the country, solar is a growing technology, partially due to the falling price of solar panels. Doug Fredrickson, vice president of operations of Blattner Energy, which constructed the Slayton site, said, ?We expect business to grow considerably in 2013 and 2014. The indicators are really strong. The technology is improving, and the price of panels is going down ? you can hardly keep up with the reductions.?

Ecos Energy intentionally placed its new solar array outside of Slayton near Buffalo Ridge, an area filled with over 70 wind farms. Xcel Energy, the utility that is purchasing the Slayton site?s power, will be studying whether the daytime-only power from solar and intermittent generation from wind facilities can compliment each other effectively. Wind often generates the most energy at night.

The efforts of Ecos Energy will help to provide clean emissions-free energy to hundreds of citizens in Minnesota, while expanding the technology as a viable resource in the state. Their work also enables the utility Xcel Energy to perform valuable generation studies that will improve future integration of wind and solar. Sign this petition to ask Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton to commend Ecos Energy for their?commitment?to keeping our environment clean and safe.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Dayton,

A company called Ecos Energy recently flipped the switch on a new solar plant near Slayton, bringing the largest solar generation facility in Minnesota into commercial operation. The new installation, located near Buffalo Ridge, consists of 7,040 photovoltaic panels which produce a total of 2,000KW of power output. This clean, emissions free electricity is enough to power 250 typical homes.

The work of Ecos Energy follows a continuing trend of growing solar generation in the state of Minnesota and all over the nation. This organization alone has built eight solar projects around the midwest in the past year. Their work providing citizens everywhere with access to renewable energy deserves credit. I urge you to commend Ecos Energy for their completion of the Slayton solar facility and their continued commitment to keeping our natural environment safe and pure.

Sincerely,

Lung cancer detection by CT scanning

UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers are looking into the widespread implementation of computed-tomography (CT) scanning for the early detection of lung cancer in a public health setting, asking two key questions: Without screening, why and how do patients with lung cancer get diagnosed with the disease in the first place? And what proportion of these cases would be captured by screening efforts?

Dr. David Gerber, an oncologist and assistant professor of internal medicine, has used the electronic medical records data of more than 400 patients in a single-center study that is further exploring results from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST) released in 2010. The NLST already showed a reduction in lung cancer mortality may result in widespread CT-based screening of select populations. This population was strictly defined according to age (55 to 74 years) and smoking history (at least 30 years of one-pack-a-day smoking).

Dr. Gerber and his team, in a study published Dec. 21 in PLoS ONE ? the Public Library of Science?s online journal, reviewed the records of patients who were diagnosed with Stage 1 or Stage 2 non-small cell lung cancer over a recent 10-year period, and found that the proportion of cases identified by CT scan (without preceding chest X-ray) increased almost 50 percent during this period. Simultaneously, the proportion of patients who underwent initial chest imaging to evaluate symptoms declined more than 30 percent. Finally, the researchers found that only half of early-stage lung cancer cases would meet NLST criteria for lung cancer screening.

?Our results suggest that a substantial proportion of patients currently presenting with early-stage lung cancer would continue to do so independently of radiographic screening if such a program were implemented according to NLST criteria,? Dr. Gerber said. ?The possibility of frequent detection of early-stage disease outside of a screening context seems more likely with lung cancer than with other malignancies, as chest imaging is a more common practice in non-screening clinical care than are mammograms, Pap smears, and colonoscopies.?

Whether radiographic screening for lung cancer should be extended to a broader population is not yet known.

?Adhering to specific guidelines may be challenging for clinicians,? Dr. Gerber said. ?For instance, in our sample, almost 25 percent of patients with early-stage disease would be ineligible for screening because they are too old under NLST criteria.?

Dr. Gerber pointed out that certain professional organisations, such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, have omitted a maximum age cut-off from their screening recommendations.

?Until there is sufficient evidence to offer screening to a broader population,? Dr. Gerber said, ?clinicians should remain aware of the diverse reasons for and circumstances of early-stage lung cancer presentation to expedite further evaluation and potentially curative treatment.?

IPCC Legal Notice ? NoFrakkingConsensus

January 9, 2013 at 7:20 am

The Legal and Liaison Officer of the IPCC has sent me a boilerplate notice, requesting the removal of Secret Santa leak documents from my website.

ipcc_legal_notice

It?s an odd world when a communication from a Legal and Liaison Officer ends with: ?do not print this e-mail unless absolutely necessary.?

I didn?t pay much attention to the United Nations before I began researching the climate debate. I?m not sure I?d ever heard of the World Meteorological Organization, the UN entity that houses the paid, head office staff of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) ? see the photo here.

Lately I?ve begun to view the UN as a vast, unaccountable, bossy bureaucracy. One whose employees imagine they have a right to lecture you about your e-mail printing habits when contacting you about an entirely unrelated topic.

If you click the image above it will enlarge and you can read the notice I?ve received. It says that documents released via the Secret Santa leak are ?not for public distribution? and requests that I remove them from my website. Which probably means it?s a good idea for those of you who are seeding the torrent to keep your clients open a while longer.

But really, the cat is out-of-the-bag. The damage is done. Thousands of copies of these documents are now out there. They can?t be recalled.

Welcome to the 21st century.

Counting the cost of mercury pollution

Monday, January 7, 2013

Cleaning up mercury pollution and reducing prenatal exposure to the neurotoxin methylmercury (MeHg) could save the European Union ?10,000 million per year, finds a new study published in BioMed Central's open access journal Environmental Health. New estimates suggest that between 1.5 and 2 million children in the EU are born each year with MeHg exposures above the safe limit of 0.58?g/g and 200,000 above the WHO recommended maximum of 2.5?g/g.

While some mercury occurs naturally in the environment for example from volcanic eruptions or forest fires, most is generated by burning fossil fuels. Marine and fresh water species bioconcentrate MeHg; consequently the main source of exposure for humans is from eating fish.

A team of researchers from across Europe used the DEMOCOPHES study of exposure to environmental chemicals to assess the impact of MeHg on humans. Hair samples of child-mother pairs, collected from 17 European countries, demonstrated that, as a lower estimate, 1,866,000 children are born in Europe exposed to toxic levels of MeHg. 232,000 of these are exposed to hazardous levels, five times higher. But not every child in Europe is equally at risk. When analysed per country, children born in Portugal and Spain were the most exposed to MeHg, and Hungary the least.

Exposure to MeHg in humans affects brain development, resulting in a lower IQ, and consequently a lower earning potential. The long term cost to society can be calculated as lifetime earning loss per person, although this estimate does not take into account other aspects of brain toxicity or risks of cardiovascular disease in adults.

Prof Philippe Grandjean explained, "If we convert the effects of MeHg on developing brains into IQ points then the benefits of controlling MeHg pollution equates to 700,000 IQ points per year and monetary benefits of ?8,000 to ?9,000 million per year for the whole of the EU. Exposure abatement would mainly benefit southern Europe ."

Once MeHg is formed, it cycles though the environment for thousands of years, exposing humans and other species to potentially toxic levels for generations. Commenting on the research Dr Elsie Sunderland said, "Mitigating the harm caused by methylmercury requires global-scale cooperation on policies and source reductions. Negotiations by the United Nations Environment Program are currently underway to address mercury emission levels."

The 2 Most Important Bits of A Successful Relationship

There are 2 things that every relationship will certainly thrive on ? EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? the 2 E? ersus.

EQUALITY and ENHANCEMENT denote a successful relationship, a successful choice of companion.

Once i speak of EQUALITY, I talk about emotional EQUALITY where each partner has the capacity to give and also receive and communicate obviously, concisely and comprehensively without being clingy, demanding, weak or controlling.

I additionally speak of keeping each other in SIMILAR respect where each companion values what the some other partner brings to the connection, where 1 person? s power is a good match up for the some other person? s capability to thrive, where both partners value exactly what other partner has to offer.

A good EQUALITY where neither companion has to ? carry? the other partner because both partners are capable on a physical, financial and emotional level, and each companion enacts all three of those levels throughout their relationship.

Once i speak of ENHANCEMENT, I simply mean that every partner is physically, financially and psychologically balanced by themselves, their lives are fulfilled without having anyone else needing to be presently there, but when they may be together their lives are even better than prior to.

ENHANCEMENT is when neither companion is dependent or even co-dependent; they may be each powerful, capable people who come together to improve what they are already taking pleasure in.

ENHANCEMENT comes from a host to security, a spot of satisfaction, a place of knowledge, a spot where both parties can easily exist effectively alone but where every person is enhanced through the some other.

Most relationships, many fairy tales, many (in fact, maybe all) marriages are built on a need to own another individual, on a desire to manage the actions of one more, on a conditional premise which is based on dependence and not on a true ENHANCEMENT.

A relationship built on EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT doesn?t have to be labeled, will not must be co-dependent, will not require lifelong conditions or events, it simply requires two individuals who are extremely able alone and who get together to create something better still.

How do you take part in a relationship built on EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT?

Try this test, see the anecdote, use it to your existence:

Basically play tennis with a seven year old, I must tap the ball on the net, I must ensure that the ball is placed near to the participant, I must lessen our game in order that the 7 year old might possibly perhaps hit the ball back on the net (even though he will probably slap it into the web, from the court, or at my head), and then the game associated with tennis I play is not really much fun for me personally, in fact it quickly turns into a chore as I lower my standards more and more to accommodate the abilities of the seven year old (or lack thereof).

Still if I would be to play against someone who is better than or equal to my playing standard, I must raise our game in order that the rallies are exciting, in order to keep up the enjoyment of every player, in order to be equal to the partner I am playing with. Once i play tennis with this person I have met my match up, I am continuously thinking, strategizing, excelling, boosting my performance to help keep the game in existence and thriving, through the end from the set I have become a much better player (as get they) because we every gave it our almost all, and we every took what was offered in the spirit it was intended.

The moral of the story is that you should never lower your standards to accommodate someone else? s relationship problems.

Certainly, you should communicate and interact, but you should never give up your abilities to stay a relationship with someone who is not really capable of matching you with theirs.

EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? a reasonable game well played.

EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? a great relationship well resided.

EQUALITY & ENHANCEMENT ? a better way to love.

Dead on Facebook: Pranksters kill accounts with fake death reports

8 hrs.

While vacationing with his wife in Cancun, Rusty Foster did something many would find inexplicable?? he?didn?t check his Facebook account. Not once.?

But when the couple returned to their home in Peaks Island, Maine earlier this week, Foster?learned much to his surprise that he was dead???at least as far as Facebook was concerned.

?Everything seemed OK, but?I didn?t try to post anything until Thursday,? Foster told NBC News. Foster says he attempted to log on to his Facebook account, and got the ?pink box? instead???the one that reads:

This account is in a special memorial state. If you have any questions or concerns, please visit the Help Center for further information.

Turns out, while Foster was away, his prankster pal had him declared dead on Facebook, where it?s surprisingly easy to falsely memorialize an account. Since Facebook has no realtime customer service hotline,?getting one?s profile resurrected in this case?required outside intervention ... from BuzzFeed.?When Foster couldn't get Facebook's immediate attention, he wrote a note to the social news site asking for help.

How did BuzzFeed's intrepid reporter?Katie Notopoulos?help out? By turning around and Facebook murdering her colleague John Herrman, of course.

Being dead???at least on the Internet???is ?a little bit anticlimactic,? says Herrman. "I?ve been worrying about it?my whole my life and it turned out to just be a Facebook status update."?

Unbeknownst to him, Notopoulos had reported him dead for the purposes of investigating Foster's claims, not to mention the possibility of an awesomely annoying (and some might say, dark)?prank made possible by Facebook's service for the grieving.

When NBC News turned to Facebook to make sense of this apparently?slipshod policy, a spokesperson emailed the following statement:

We have designed the memorialization process to be effective for grieving families and friends, while still providing precautions to protect against either erroneous or malicious efforts to memorialize the account of someone who is not deceased.?We also provide an appeals process for the rare instances in which accounts are mistakenly reported or inadvertently memorialized.

Prior to 2009, Facebook users who sloughed off this mortal coil had the unfortunate habit of haunting the living???their pictures popping up on the profiles of their former friends, along with the friendly suggestion from Facebook that y?all should ?reconnect.? Four years into the network's existence, and with more than 300 million active users at the time, Facebook realized it had had its fair share of user fatalities, and the pile of creeped-out user?complaints that came with it.?

So the??Memorializing? function came into being, allowing loved ones to alert Facebook to their friends? passing and?preventing the social network from making potentially upsetting, wildly inappropriate suggestions. Any profile that has been?memorialized?is locked down: Only friends previously?approved by the deceased can even?view it, and personal information such as phone numbers are removed.?

Before contacting BuzzFeed, Foster had?attempted to?resuscitate?his profile by following?Facebook?s appeal process? ??filling out the online form titled ?My Personal Account is in a Special Memorialized State.? But he?wasn't?keen on killing time in social-media purgatory, and the automated reply Foster first received?didn't?inspire his confidence.??We are very sorry to hear about your loss,? it read, along with some reassurance that his report would be reviewed in according the site?s policies.

?Since I?couldn't?get on Facebook, I had a lot of time to kill on the Internet,? Foster said. ?So I Googled.? Foster says he?found more than a few search results about similarly pranked users who had difficulty getting the memorial status removed from their accounts, dating back to 2009. Finally, he sent his note to BuzzFeed.

Like Foster?s puckish friend, Notopoulos filled out a?memorialization?form for Herrman, and included ?proof of death? in the form of an online obit. For Rusty Foster, 36, who lives in Maine, his pal sent a link to the obit for a Russell Foster, 80, of Mississippi. Sure, the names more or less match, but the ages and places of residence do not.

For?BuzzFeed?s Herrman of New York, Notopoulous sent in an obit for John Herrmann of Nebraska, who, as Notopoulous noted ?is way older? than her coworker. In addition to the?age and geographic discrepancies, there's a small matter of the last names being spelled differently.

Like Foster, Herrman didn't know he was "dead" until he tried to access his account.?Herrman told NBC News that he attempted to log on, got that pink box telling him he was dead, filled out the form to get things fixed and received the same?perplexing ?sorry for your loss? automated response.

Yet less than an hour after Notopoulous? story ?How Almost Anyone Can Take You Off Facebook (And Lock You Out)? went live on BuzzFeed, Herrman?s account rose from the grave. Herrman also received another response that may very well be from a real human, which read:

It looks like your account was suspended by mistake. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. You should now be able to log in. If you have any issues getting back into your account, please let me know.

Foster, meanwhile, says he finds it interesting that Hermann, who was Facebook-dead days less than himself, got the Lazarus treatment before Foster. His own profile did get reinstated eventually?on Friday ? but without a cheerfully apologetic note.

The spookiest part of the social media ghost story, at least for Foster, wasn?t getting declared dead. It?s what he says happened after he created a second account in order to troubleshoot his problem.?He friended just one person, and almost immediately Facebook started suggesting he friend people who were linked to his ?dead? account. The thing is, these people are not Facebook friends with the new account's only?acquaintance; Facebook was digging deeper into its data?to reconnect Foster with his people.

?It?s weird how Facebook is so good about knowing things about you, but you find this one little hole where they pretend they don?t know you at all.?

There's no word itself?from Facebook?on precautions regarding pranks, but then again, it?s not like there are a lot of jerks on the Internet.

Helen A.S. Popkin?goes blah blah blah about the Internet. Tell her to get a real job on?Twitter?and/or?Facebook.?Also,?Google+.
